STEAMPUNK STAR WARS.

I came across video game artist Bjorn Hurri while aimlessly browsing Kotaku and I am seriously geeking out. The world cannot have enough incredibly talented video game artists, the ranks of which include Artgerm (who's Singaporean, btw) and Kunkka of Imaginary Friends Studios. Anyway, without further ado, I give you more unbelievably beautiful steampunk Star Wars art.

I'm not even really a steampunk fan )

Okay, I literally just came home from watching X-Men: First Class. And I honestly do not know what people are bitching about, but then again I've never followed the comics. I know enough from browsing Wikipedia that the movie is waaaaay different from canon, but you know what? It was AWESOME anyway.

Don't spoil this for me, Erik (i.e. SPOILER ALERT) )

tl;dr I am so, so glad that I finally understand what this graphic is about:

But most importantly, I CAN FINALLY READ FIC. HELLO NEW FANDOM :D

Still can't get over James McAvoy's pretty pretty eyes. Sooooooo blue *_*

Greetings from Narita Airport! I really wish I wasn't too lazy to plan an actual trip to Japan. Akihabara and Harajuku and Kyoto and Nara and.. :( But that's irrelevant at the moment.

I have to wonder if it's normal that even with 2 glorious weeks of vacation ahead of me, the thought running foremost in my mind is: I AM GOING TO MISS SO MUCH FIC. SO MUCH FIC. Especially now that I am trying to actively follow both Inception and The Eagle fandoms D: I practically had a panic attack when I realized that none of us had brought a laptop along (mine is too heavy, okay, and my dad has a netbook so I thought it was reasonable to assume that he'd pack it D:). I actually started to seriously question my sanity when I barely stopped myself from doing a fist-pump (in REAL LIFE) when I remembered that I can use both my iPod and my PSP to access the interwebz. The first step is admitting you have a problem. But what if you know full well that you're addicted but you don't care? :D

Anyway, I'm not going to let the fact that Inception is really, truly the most resilient parasite (I ended up watching it for the bazillionth time on the plane, WTF) bother me. For now, I'm just going to enjoy the fact that the airport lounge has free computers (iMacs even) that will let me read as much fic as humanly possible before my next flight.

It's a sign of how quickly the fandom has swallowed me up that I couldn't stop myself from buying The Eagle of the Ninth Chronicles. It's also a sign of how little research I actually did that I was completely unaware that it's a book for children (well, technically it's for young adults, and technically I am a young adult). This explains why I couldn't find it under General Fiction and why I very nearly LOL'ed at the salesperson when she told me it was in the Children's section. I suppose I should feel bad for reading and enjoying porny fanfics based on a novel for innocent teenagers (oxymoron alert), but I choose to lay all the blame on Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell and their unabashed mutual adoration in both the film and real life. All those lingering looks while traipsing around Scotland and during press interviews? So not helping, guys. And while I'm spreading the blame around, I must also mention [personal profile] cobweb_diamond and [info]onelittlesleep for their very compelling promotional posts. Hi guys, you don't know me, but I blame you anyway. Let's all go to the special hell together.  But most importantly, none of this would be possible if my darling friend and neighbor[info]_chimoms hadn't coerced persuaded me to watch The Eagle. Credit where credit is due and all that.

I feel like I just wrote the Acknowledgements part of a thesis paper entitled "The Perversion of Rosemary Sutcliff's The Eagle of the Ninth: Why Fanfiction is the Most Amazing Thing Ever".

ETA: Channing Tatum is making an honest-to-God movie based on his youth as a stripper. A STRIPPER. HE IS TAKING A FELLOW MALE STRIPPER UNDER HIS WING. Channing, we fangirls love you as much as you love us ♥

Portal 2 is coming! Portal 2 is coming! I've been spazzing about it for the past few days because Valve apparently makes the best ads EVER. I am fundamentally incapable of picking a favorite, but I'll post this one because it clearly shows how epic this game is going to be:

Needless to say, all of these videos are already in my Favorites list on Youtube. The only downside to all this awesomeness is that it highlights how insanely difficult the puzzles will probably be, as if the first Portal wasn't hard enough to get through without a guide. But we shall all persevere. For (Aperture) Science. And cake (which is not a lie).

New mood theme, new icons, new obsession. Phoenix Wright is definitely one of the best games EVER (I would have said THE best game EVER but nothing can take the place of Final Fantasy in my gamer heart). It's a good thing I didn't have class for the past week because of our midterm break; I've been sleeping at 6:30 am almost everyday because I've been playing the latest installment in the Phoenix Wright series. The game is just too addictive and it has nothing to do with the fact that I have a crush on the gorgeous new prosecutor. But alas, midterm break is now officially over and I have an 8 am class tomorrow. Here's hoping that I'll actually wake up.

I have a new (anime) addiction: Romeo x Juliet. As you can probably guess, it's loosely based on Shakespeare's play; the main characters are the same, for the most part, but the plot is almost completely different except for the family feud and the whole star-crossed lovers theme. I realize that not everyone will be interested in my fangirling opinion on this show, and this post IS a bit long, so I'll make an LJ cut since I'm so considerate :P

For all you anime fans out there, I can't recommend this anime enough without sounding like a complete and utter fangirl, so just go take a look and judge for yourselves. The first 8 episodes are available on Crunchyroll (the series is still ongoing, so I think only 9 episodes have been aired in Japan). I put up some screenshots for those who are interested.

EDIT: I found another site, Veoh, with better quality videos for Romeo x Juliet, and possibly some other animes as well (I haven't checked). However, it seems to be missing some episodes. And I found a better picture of Tybalt ♥♥♥

Yes, the Friend Test has suddenly made a comeback. So go answer mine if you have nothing better to do :P

I love this layout. Gawariel is really very talented. And it's too bad I won't be in the Philippines when this movie comes out (May 25). I won't get to sit through Mel's fangirling and Cassy and Momo's combined disturbance of the peace. *sigh* It won't be the same without them :P

Oh, and for those of you who've read Ender's Game, you'll be able to appreciate this joke: http://xkcd.com/c241.html. For those of you who haven't, don't bother. It's one of those inside joke things.

EDIT: I've just watched the trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and OMGihavetowatchitnowican'twaitforanothertwomonthsOMG o_o Well, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it does look REALLY good, if not as witty as Dead Man's Chest (despite the stupid chest/heart puns). Possie! We must watch it on DVD together when I get back! :D

List any seven six (because Kuchiki Byakuya is captain of the 6th squad :D) songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LiveJournal along with your seven six songs. Then tag seven six (Byakuya = ♥) other people to see what they're listening to.

1. 24 - Switchfoot
And I'm not who I thought I was twenty-four hours ago.. It's a sad song, with *gasp* religious overtones, but I still got hooked.

2. Silvertoes - Parokya ni Edgar
Siguro nga naman ay may mga mas pangit pa sayo.. Pero at least hindi sila nagpapakyut katulad mo.. Grabe ang sama. Haha. Very amusing song.

3. The Saga Begins - Weird Al Yankovic
My, my, this here Anakin guy.. May be Vader someday later but now he's just a smallfry.. Weird Al's creativity never ceases to amaze me. Smells Like Nirvana is also hilariously well-written.

4. Ningyo Hime - Tanaka Rie
Watashi ga anata wo mitsukete.. Ending song of the anime Chobits. I don't know what the lyrics mean (the title means "Mermaid Princess"), but I really like the tune and the singer's voice.

5. Sanctuary - Utada Hikaru
My heart's a battleground.. Theme song of the video game Kingdom Hearts II. Utada Hikaru makes great songs and lyrics, which are a little less weird than what I usually expect from Japanese lyricists (no offense meant, of course :P).

6. The Ordertaker - Parokya ni Edgar
Waiter na gwapito, ano bang meron dito.. This song never fails to make me laugh (which can be quite awkward when I'm sitting in the bus). I think Parokya has gotten stoned one too many times.

I snagged a bunch of new icons today. Go look! :D I really really REALLY ♥ Ouran; thanks loads to [profile] _chimoms for telling me about it. I'd go into fangirl mode over Tama-chan and Kyou-chan, but I'd rather not annoy anyone unnecessarily :P I also ♥ Bleach, although the Shinigami Arc was much better than the current one. But as long as Byakuya and Hitsugaya are there, I'm happy :D

I just finished KH-2!!! :D After all those grueling hours of completing Jiminy's Journal, I got.. a weird trailer thing. Which is on YouTube. But that's ok! The coolness of the final battle more than made up for all my hard work. Ok, ok, no more spoilers. I'll just say this: I now understand why [profile] twilight_touch has so many RikuxSora icons and graphics. They're really cute at the end ♥

And now I have nothing to do. Well there's still Xenosaga Ep. II.. But that's practically done.. I guess I could give Suikoden IV a try.. At malamang wala nang nakakaintindi sa akin.. Haha..

To go to Mall of Asia or not to go to Mall of Asia.. Transpo issues kasi eh :P I wish I could be a confident driver at the snap of a finger or something.. Or even just get a car that I can bump around without having to commit suicide afterwards.. And while I'm at it, I might as well wish for world peace and an end to hunger and suffering. Wouldn't that be nice? :P

I think I'll go watch LotR: The Two Towers extended edition (just to kill the next three and a half hours of my life).

I am honestly starting to believe that it's possible.

Layout changed out of the sheer need to DO something. Riku is ♥ :D I was going to use the other KH-2 layout with more characters but someone might complain about spoilers :P Not that this isn't somewhat spoiler-ish, but come on; everyone knows that Riku has to be in the sequel. I haven't finished the game yet; I stopped right before the last battle to clear all the Jiminy's Journal thingies. And despite my current state of helpless inactivity, I am not bored enough to play KH-2. All those quests and mini-games are more tedious than obtaining the celestial weapons in FFX, and that's saying a lot. A tip for those who haven't started playing and want to see the bonus content: play in Proud mode.

What to do.. What to do.. Besides wait to go insane.. All the anime I'm currently watching haven't released their latest episodes yet :( Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle was particularly frustrating. Medyo cliffhanger kasi. Lalo na Bleach, but I'm more interested in Tsubasa right now. Ouran episode 12 isn't out yet either.. Oh, the torture >_<

I think I'll go stare at the ceiling some more.

I am almost speechless with awe.. o_o

Without a doubt, this movie is something that EVERYONE must watch. I'm absolutely sure EVERYONE will enjoy it, whether or not you're a Final Fantasy fan; the graphics will definitely blow everyone away. But of course people who have played Final Fantasy VII will enjoy this a lot more because the characters and the story are familiar. I was certainly on the edge of my seat the whole time and was delighted every time one of the characters from the game showed up. Maybe I'm exaggerating but, for me, words aren't enough to describe how great this movie is. I'm going to watch it again! :D

If anyone's wondering how I managed to watch this movie mere days after its release in Japan (and probably months before its U.S. release), I downloaded a torrent :P Don't worry, I am definitely going to buy a copy of this (either a PSP disc or a DVD) if and when I find one. But I just HAD to watch this ASAP. I've been fanatically following all the Advent Children news I could find ever since I stumbled upon a wallpaper with an amazingly realistic Cloud and Sephiroth and the title Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. At first, I thought it would be a game for the PS2 or PS3, a sequel to FF VII (much like FF X-2). I don't know which I would have preferred actually: a game or a movie. Both would be much better :D

I hope people who haven't seen Advent Children won't compare it to the first Final Fantasy movie, The Spirits Within. That was a certified flop. The graphics were groundbreaking, but they weren't awe-inspiring enough to make up for the terrible storyline. The story of Advent Children is far from straightforward, and people who haven't played FF VII might have a little trouble understanding a few things, but the movie starts with a summary of the game that gives the basic information needed to follow the storyline. The very least I can say about Advent Children is that it's definitely a more decent movie than The Spirits Within, and personally I think that's an understatement.

I suppose I should go to sleep now. [profile] eternalmortal and I still have to go to a museum later for our Southeast Asian Studies subject. I'll stay up a little longer, though. I'm still too worked up about this movie :D
